Several city councilors expressed dismay over a recent revelation that the public bidding for the purchase of furniture including tables and chairs for the new Tagbilaran City Hall has not been completed.

City Engineering Office chief Engr. Piancita Castolo told the city council on its regular session Friday that there has been no winning bidder who will supply furniture for the newly renovated facility.

Most of the councilors were surprised to hear the report as the funds for the purchase of furniture for City Hall has long been allocated.

Councilor Dodong Gonzaga said that the Sangguninag Panlungsod had approved a supplemental budget amounting to more than P13 million even before the renovation of the quake-hit building started.

He said that the amount was earmarked for the purchase of furniture and other necessities of the city hall building.

According to Castolo, there had been a previous bidding but the winning bidder lack documents and other required papers.

She noted that they had conducted to failed biddings for the purchase of fixtures and furniture leading them to conduct a rebidding.

A direct purchase will instead be made if the next bidding would again fail, Castolo added.

With the turn of events, councilors have projected that city government office operations will completely be moved back to City Hall next year.

For his part, City Administrator Leonides Borja said that offices can likely start to occupy the first and second floors of the newly renovated structure in November.  (Allen Doydora)
