The Tagbilaran City Traffic Management Office (CTMO) collected P260,000 in fines from violators of the Clamping and Towing Ordinance in just one month, said a city official.

Tony Samante, CTMO chief, noted that the said amount was accumulated since the implementation of the ordinance in September 1 until September 30.

The fines were paid by 377 motorcycle and tricycle drivers, and 85 drivers of four and six-wheeled vehicles.

According to Samante, most violators were caught illegally parking along Gallares St. near Pook Pantalan in Tagbilaran City.

Samante said that CTMO personnel were able to catch violators each day who park in areas with signs noting that it was a clamping zone causing the amount of collected fines to swell.

Tricycle and motorcycle drivers who legally park are fined P200 while drivers of four wheelers and six wheelers are required to pay P500 and P1,000, respectively, for the violation.

The CTMO official observed that the imposed fines have been effected so far as traffic enforcers have not been encountering repeat offenders so far.

Since the implementation of the ordinance, Samante has repeatedly assured the public that no one will be exempted from paying fines for illegally parking their vehicles.

He is optimistic that the number of violators this month will decrease, noting that the public has already been well-informed regarding the ordinance. (Allen Doydora)
