A Tagbilaran City councilor proposed to have the old outhouse of the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in Tagbilaran City renovated after it was damaged three years ago during the 2013 earthquake.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on engineering and public works led by Councilor Dodong Polinar discussed the issue following complaints raised by concerned citizens regarding the lack of adequate restroom facility at the IBT.
Polinar in last week’s regular session of the city council passed a resolution ordering to have the renovation of the facility expedited which was approved on the same day.
The hastened construction is intended to provide comfortable restrooms to passengers particularly on holidays and special occasions such as the All Saints and All Souls Days and December holidays when more passengers crowd the IBT.
According to IBT manager Inday Inting a P3.2 million fund has been earmarked for the renovation of the IBT including the outhouse.
However, Inting bared that a date for the start of the construction has not been set yet.
She said that the rehabilitation of the IBT including the outhouse will likely start after the renovation of the Tagbilaran CIty Public Market, which was given priority, is completed.
The contract of the market’s rehabilitation indicated that the construction which was recently started would be completed within eight months.
Inting said that the IBT’s restrooms are still usable but their toilets often become clogged when water is unavailable.
The official added that senior citizens and persons with disabilities have been prioritized in the use of the restrooms. (Allen Doydora)
