President Rodrigo R. Duterte expressed his frustration on Tuesday over the unseemly slow completion of housing projects for typhoon “Yolanda” victims and vowed to fire any government official who further delays these projects.

During his speech before typhoon victims at the Tacloban mass grave at Barangay Basper in Tacloban City, the President said he was not satisfied with the progress of the projects three years after the calamity struck.

“I am not satisfied. As a matter of fact, it’s a… it’s BS to me,” he said.

“I must admit that government has fallen short, very short of the expectations of the people. These projects should have been finished one year after Yolanda,” he said.

The President said he has already introduced reforms in his administration regarding cutting of red tape and vowed to remove all government employees involved in the project who are remiss in their jobs of serving the people.

“LWUA, NHA, DPWH, you do that again and I will fire all of you. I will ask you to resign. It’s true,” Duterte said.

The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are agencies involved in the reconstruction work.

“Indolence is part of corruption. When you are paid eight hours to do your work, you work for eight hours. Do not shortchange the public,” the President said.

President Duterte vowed to come back to Tacloban in December to check on the progress of the projects and placed Presidential Assistant for Visayas Michael Dino to oversee and coordinate their completion. (PNA)
