The City Traffic Management Office (CTMO) is undermanned and in need of more personnel to keep order in Tagbilaran City’s streets amid worsening traffic particularly during rush hours, said a city official.
CTMO chief Tony Samante admitted that the agency remains without a solution for the growing problem of congestion in specific streets in the city due to its lack of traffic enforcers.
He pinpointed roads surrounding Shoppers Mart particularly H. Grupo Street as heavily congested areas due to errant drivers who park along the streets.
According to Samante, the CTMO has already been receiving several complaints regarding heavy traffic in said areas particularly at night.
The traffic chief also noted that most traffic enforcers remain on duty only until 6 p.m. which leaves no one to guide traffic at night.
The CTMO has already requested for additional personnel but has yet to receive applications.
There are 80 traffic aides working for the CTMO and are deployed to various areas in the city to man traffic in the daytime only.
For his part, City Administrator Leonides Edi Borja told DYRD Balita that they are still devising measures to address the traffic problem. (Allen Doydora)
