Governor Edgar Chatto expressed hope for steady relations between President Rodrigo Duterte and US President-elect Donald Trump to avert perceived threats against the province’s economy due to possible policy changes.

Chatto said that he is hopeful that Trump’s victory in the US elections would have no adverse effects in Bohol.

The governor issued the statement following the emergence of accounts noting that the election of the Republican business mogul poses a threat to the business process outsourcing (BPO) and tourism sectors and overseas Filipino workers in the US.

Chatto particularly expressed optimism that the development would not affect the BPO industry which he considers as the “second pillar” in Bohol progress next to tourism.

He noted that the BPO sector over the years has bolstered employment generation in Bohol.

However, Bohol’s highest ranking official admitted that it remains to be seen how perceived policy changes by the incoming US administration would affect the province and the rest of the country.

The governor also projected that it is possible that Trump would hear sides from various sectors to douse concerns over policy changes. (Allen Doydora)
