A 68-year-old woman was hit and killed by pickup truck in Brgy. Poblacion, Dimiao at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as Vicenta Pelonio, a resident of Barangay Luyo of said town, and the driver of the ill-fated Mazda as Loboc resident Jandave Balios, 28.

According to Balios, he was driving towards Ubay when he dozed off behind the steering wheel leading to the sudden swerve of the vehicle into the victim who was standing outside a Palawan Pawnshop.

Pelenio was reportedly transacting with the said pawnshop when the vehicle rammed the pawnshop injuring other customers of the establishment and killing her on the spot.

Balios was then taken into the custody of the Dimiao police but was released after making a settlement and vowing to extend financial assistance to the family of the victim. (Allen Doydora)
