Around P74 million worth of livestock have been distributed by the provincial government and several benefactors to various towns in Bohol in a span of 17 years, said a Capitol official.
According to Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz, a total of 10,300 farm animals have been given to various beneficiaries since the project was implemented in 1999.
Lapiz, at a convocation led by Gov. Edgar Chatto on Monday, said that from seven local government units, the number of beneficiary-towns across Bohol increased to 19.
With the help of the Confederation of Boholanos in United States and Canada (CONBUSAC), the number of beneficiary-towns further rose to 40 as the group donated P47 million for the livestock project.
A total of 6,333 farm animals were distributed to beneficiaries through the said amount donated by CONBUSAC, said Lapiz.
The project is supported by the Barangay Livestock Aide (BALA) program which is currently headed by coordinator Roberto “Bob†Galero and comprised of 2,264 volunteers who implement each aspect of the initiative.
BALA was launched when Chatto was still vice governor and now-congressman Rene Relampagos was governor. (Rey Tutas)
