The government is apparently winning the war on drugs in Bohol as law enforcers have cut back drug supply in the province, but overall crime incidence slightly increased, a police official said.

According to Supt. Lorenzo Batuan, chief of the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) operations branch, a total of 124.21 grams of shabu were confiscated starting October until November 25.

The drug haul is estimated to be worth P2,897,192, he said during the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting on Monday.

In its anti-drug drive during the same period, the BPPO arrested 109 drug suspects in 74 operations while 152 cases have been filed against the nabbed alleged drug personalities.

The police official also reported that the BPPO under its director Senior Supt. Felipe Natividad seized 30 long and short firearms from 13 suspects who were arrested in the same period.

In the BPPO’s Oplan Tracker, 38 fugitives surrendered and were arrested during the 55-day span.

However, Batuan noted that the average crime rate in Bohol posted an uptick as it went up from 48.3 percent in September to 52.9 percent in October.

The increase in average crime rate was partly pushed by the slight increase of index crime rate which went up from 15.66 percent in September to 16.46 percent in October.

Based on the BPPO data, theft cases went down in October as only 87 were recorded in the month, decreasing from the posted 96 in September.

Physical injury cases plummeted to 64 in October from 87 in the previous month while carnapping cases were halved to six from twelve in the same two-month period.

Batuan also pointed out that rape cases increased to 11 in October from 8 in the previous month while homicide and cattle rustling incidents also rose from 2 to 3 and 0 to 4, respectively, in the same period. (Rey Tutas)
