Bohol has been included in the Department of Health’s (DOH) list of provinces which will receive dengue vaccines for public school students, particularly those in the elementary level, said a local health official.

According to provincial health officer Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot, most of the provinces in the country will be receiving the vaccines but there has been no confirmation when these will arrive in Bohol.

The DOH is still waiting for a go-signal after a court put on hold the distribution of the vaccine as a few ill effects were seen in some of those who received doses of the world’s first dengue vaccine.

In the meantime, the Provincial Health Office continues to implement its anti-dengue campaign through information drives promoting cleanliness and the “4 o’clock habit.”

Cabagnot also urged the public to continue implementing the “4S” which means search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, seek early treatment; self-protection and say no to indiscriminate fogging.

There has been a total of 2,199 dengue cases recorded in the entire province from the start of the year until Nov. 17.

Fifteen of the said dengue patients succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease. (Allen Doydora)
