A man who tried to kill himself by slitting his throat with a blade on Thursday was saved by his 10-year-old son who prevented him from bleeding to death.

Police identified the victim as 35-year old Rey Terec, a resident of Barangay Baucan Norte of the said town.

According to Terec’s wife, Merlyn, the victim went straight to the kitchen which was empty as he came home from a drinking spree at their neighbor’s house and tried to cut his throat open.

Terec’s son reportedly went inside the kitchen after eating and found the victim bloodied after his attempt to take his own life. The boy then screamed asking his mother for help.

This prompted Merlyn to ask for assistance and rush Rey to a hospital.

Rey is still recuperating from his injury at the hospital but the attending physician already declared him out of critical condition.

According to Merlyn, she was not in talking terms with Rey starting a few days prior to the incident as they were having family problems.

This may have pushed the victim to try to take his own life, she added. (Allen Doydora)
