A 60-year-old mananambal (folk healer) and her adopted daughter were shot and hacked to death by two unidentified suspects in Danao on Tuesday.
Police identified the victims as Mirasol Cañeda and Lilibeth Cañeda, 30, both natives of Siquijor living in Barangay Nahud, Danao.
According to the town’s police, two men barged into Cañeda’s home and immediately shot both victims with a .45 caliber pistol and a shotgun at around 7 p.m.
Based on investigation, the killers made sure that the Cañedas do not survive the attack by repeatedly hacking them with a knife.
The neck of one of the victims was reportedly almost completely cut off due to the hacking.
Policemen in Danao immediately responded after being notified by the victims’ neighbors on the incident.
Responding cops said that they found both victims drenched in their own blood.
According to police authorities, they are eyeing personal conflict as motive behind the killing noting that the folk healer might have victimized the suspects or someone connected to the assailants.
However, further investigation will be conducted to identify the motive and suspects in the grisly murder of the Cañedas. (Allen Doydora)
