The League of Municipalities (LMP) Bohol Chapter on Friday reaffirmed its support for the national government’s anti-drug drive after a closed-door meeting between Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and the country’s mayors in Malacañang.

LMP Bohol president Clarin Mayor Allen Ray Piezas issued the group’s stand through DYRD Balita after the meeting with Duterte on Wednesday.

According to Piezas, Duterte assured mayors that he will extend support to local chief executives, policemen and other government officials who will encounter legal or other types of problems in their campaign against drugs.

During the meeting, Duterte reiterated the involvement of slain Albuera, Leyte mayor Rolando Espinosa in the proliferation of drugs in Bohol and Cebu.

Piezas said that the President also brandished a thick file which purportedly contained the names of drug-linked government officials.

However, the document’s contents were not made known by Duterte.

Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government has requested Piezas to secure statements containing reasons of three Bohol mayors for not attending the meeting.

Mayors Jacinto Naraga of San Isidro, Natividad Gonzaga of Danao and Roygie Jumamoy of Inabanga did not attend the meeting at the Palace.

Naraga said that he will be joining the wedding of his son tomorrow while Jumamoy is out of the country.

Gonzaga has not yet issued a reason for missing the meeting but a local DILG official speculated that the mayor was not able to attend due to health concerns. (Rey Tutas)
