The Bohol Land Transportation Office (LTO) was ordered by the agency’s head office to strictly enforce transportation laws by arresting errant motorcyclists particularly those with customized motorcycles.
In a letter to LTO officers, the agency ordered the arrest of drivers of motorcycles with loud mufflers, redesigned bodies and replaced handlebars.
The order was issued amid mounting complaints from the public against errant motorcyclists, particularly those with noisy mufflers.
The letter was intended to strictly implement the Department of Transportation and Communications Order No. 2010-32 and mete out the appropriate sanctions to offenders.
Under the said law, law enforcers are allowed to confiscate certificates of registration, official receipts and driver’s licenses.
Authorities have also been allowed to impound customized motorcycles and release the vehicle only when the owner restores it to its original state.
Based on complaints filed before authorities, the problem on noisy motorcycles in Tagbilaran City and various towns persisted despite a previous crackdown on loud motorcycle mufflers. (Allen Doydora)
