A barangay councilor at 10 a.m. on Monday was shot dead by two bonnet-clad men on board a motorcycle in Puting Bato, Buenavista in what was the second killing in the barangay in three days.
Police identified the victim as 53-year-old Orsolo Petalcorin, a councilor in the said village.
Based on police investigation, Petalcorin was driving his motorcycle from the Bugtong Public Market when the motor-riding assailants came from behind and shot him.
Police said that the victim was already near his home during the attack wherein he was repeatedly shot and hit in the head, neck and chest causing his instantaneous death.
The suspects immediately fled the scene towards an unknown direction.
According to investigators, five spent .45 caliber shells were recovered from the crime scene.
While the probe on the shooting is ongoing, police have noted that Petalcorin’s murder may have been connected to the killing of Jessie Versaga in the same village.
Both shooting incidents may have been perpetrated by the same assailants, police said.
Versaga was shot and killed on Saturday evening allegedly by his associate who he was at odds with. (Weli Maestrado with reports from Allen Doydora)
