Ten inmates of the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) lost their visitation privileges after having tested positive for illegal drug use, said a jail official.

According to BDJ warden Jail Chief Insp. Jose Abueva, the men tested positive in the latest drug test conducted on 300 inmates last month.

The drug-using inmates have been stripped of their eligibility to avail of the Good Conduct Time Allowance which could reduce their prison term.

Abueva said that the inmates will be detained in a single cell while they will be tightly monitored by jail guards and a closed-circuit television camera.

Jail officials will also be investigating the detainees to pinpoint their drug sources outside the detention facility.

Abueva admitted that despite having implemented tight security measures in the facility, illegal drugs and other contraband are still being smuggled into the BDJ.

In the following months, drug testing for inmates will continue and around 300 of the jail’s population are set to be subjected to the testing, added Abueva. (Allen Doydora)
