It was generally peaceful in Bohol during the 48th anniversary of the New People’s Army (NPA), the Communist Party of the Philippines’ armed wing, which held activities commemorating the event nationwide on March 29.
This was based on a report made by Lt. Col. Dodjie Belloga, commander of the Army’s 47th Infantry Battalion, during the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
Acccording to Belloga, there are still no armed NPA groups in Bohol.
He said that the Army has only been able to monitor the Bohol White Area Committee (BWAC) which serves as the group’s legal front and is considered “non-violent.â€
From February 25 to March 17, the Army monitored minimal activities of the group such as food transportation, planning and a meeting.
These were conducted in barangays Tabuan, Antequera; Santo Nino, San Miguel; San Vicente, Trinidad; Tinibgan, Maribojoc and Santo Nino, Talibon; and in Tagbilaran City.
With no armed rebel groups in Bohol, the military continues to consider the province insurgency-free. (RT)
