TeamINABANGA is a recipient of a P38M evacuation center that will soon rise in a 3,000 square-meter lot in this flood-prone municipality funded by the national government through the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Evacuation Center Program.
Regional Director (RD) Ador G. Canlas of DPWH Region 7, thru its representative, Chief of Maintenance Division Jun Dela Cruz relayed to DPWH Bohol 2nd Engineering Office District Engineer De Mario M. Montejo who paid Mayor Roygie Jumamoy a visit to announce the project.
The proposed project is in line with the DPWH’s effort to harmonize the design of the evacuation centers in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Moreover, DPWH has a conceptual design and recommended salient features such as prayer rooms, dining and kitchen area, breastfeeding room, accommodation room and storage, toilet and bath for male and female and the differently abled or PWDs. A space for the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) is also included in the design.
“I am very grateful to RD Canlas and Bohol 2nd Engineering Office District Engineer De Mario M. Montejo for selecting Inabanga for this project. We are looking forward for the soonest completion of this infrastructure because we really need it considering that Inabanga River, one of the biggest river in Bohol, traverses the municipality. The safety of our constituents during emergencies and calamities will be our utmost priority. Thus this project will add to the overall success of our operations in troubled times,†said Mayor Jumamoy.
Inabanga is home to Inabanga River that comes from 17 tributaries of upland municipalities. It passes through most of the upland down to the coastal barangays. The river is prone to flooding even with just moderate rains due to the heavy siltation of its riverbed. An evacuation center like this will be very critical during the occurrences of calamities. (Inabanga Communications and News Service / ICoNS)
