A female minor was killed while her 20-year-old boyfriend is in critical condition after their motorcycle collided against a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Garcia Hernandez at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The 17-year-old female victim was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians while her companion Raymund Cadirao sustained multiple injuries.
Both are residents of East Ulbujan, Garcia Hernandez.
According to the Garcia Hernandez Police Station, the accident took place at a national road in the said village while the female fatality was driving the motorcycle.
The victim had just learned to drive a motorcycle and was still being mentored by Cadirao, police said.
Based on witnesses’ accounts, the motorcycle suddenly swerved repeatedly from one side to the other and eventually ending up at the opposite lane where it slammed into an incoming Mitsubishi Montero Sport.
The SUV as it travelled at high speed reportedly was unable to stop and avoid the out of control motorcycle.
Authorities identified the SUV’s driver as Rhea Mae Balagot, 21, who was driving towards Tagbilaran City.
Both motorcycle-riding victims were rushed to a hospital while Balagot was placed under police custody.
Balagot was then released at 7 p.m. on Monday while she pledged to shoulder both victims’ expenses from the accident. (Allen Doydora)
