A total of of 276.89 grams of shabu with estimated street value of P3.27 million had been confiscated in operations of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency from January to June this year.

PDEA-Bohol Intelligence Officer Ma. Chona Egam reported during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting on Wednesday, August, 5, that they confiscated a total of 134.57grams of shabu from buy-bust operations, 127.19 grams from raids, and 15.13 grams from those caught in the act of possession of the dangerous drugs in the first semester of the year.

During the period, PDEA conducted 101 buy bust operations, 80 raids based on search warrants; and arrested 17 persons caught in the act and one by warrant of arrest.

For his part, Police Provincial Director Dennis Agustin reported that police teams in the province conducted 32 anti-illegal drugs operations in June and 31 in July resulting to the arrest of 36 persons in June and 39 in July and filing of 52 cases in June and 40 cases in July.

From the operations, the Bohol Police Provincial Office confiscated a total of 266.54 grams of shabu from June to July.

Meanwhile, Egam further reported that 23 of the 177 complaints filed by PDEA before the prosecutor’s office from January to June had been dismissed, while 151 are still for resolution and 78 are for preliminary investigation.

Most of those dismissed dealt with possession of drug paraphernalia based on Section 12 of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Egam said 12 of the dismissed cases dealt with possession of drug paraphernalia, six dealt possession of dangerous drugs based on Section 11 of the law, two on Section 15 or use of dangerous drugs, one on Section 5 or sale of dangerous drugs, one on Section 6 or maintenance of a drug den, and one on Section 7 dealing with employees and visitors of a drug den.

During the period, there had been 358 cases already filed before the Regional Trial Courts—191 on Section 11 of RA 9165, 89 on Section 5, while 58 were filed on Section Section 12, then 12 on Section 7, and four each on Section 7 and 15.

The RTC already decided on 47 cases during the first semester of the year, 33 of them had been dismissed, 12 acquitted, and only two had been convicted.

Of the 242 charged in court for violations of RA 9165, at least 165 have been detained, 54 managed to post bail and 19 remained at large.
