A jail guard of the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) will be facing an administrative case after reportedly testing positive for illegal drug use, said a local jail official.

BDJ warden Chief Insp. Felipe Montejo told the Chronicle that the alleged drug-using guard along with other jail employees was subjected to random drug testing two weeks ago.

However, Montejo did not disclose the guard’s identity as the test result will still have to be subjected to a confirmation.

The suspect’s rank and employment status determining whether he is a causal government employee or under the payroll of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology were also not bared.

According to Montejo, the jail guard who has been suspected of illegal drug use continued to carry out his duties at the BDJ pending the review of his case.

A total of 105 Bohol jail personnel underwent drug testing and the said guard was the only one who tested positive.

The initiative was part of a nationwide campaign of the BJMP to clean up its ranks in facilities across the country.

Last week, jail guard Ernesto Vistal, a 46-year-old casual government employee, was allegedly caught in an attempt to smuggle around P200,000 worth of shabu into two jail cells of the BDJ.

Stringent security measures have since been imposed at BDJ particularly in the screening of visitors and personnel who enter the detention facility following the incident, said Montejo. (Allen Doydora)
