The lifeless bodies of two elderly women were found floating in waters off Maribojoc near the town’s pier at past 5 p.m. on Monday, said police.
Authorities identified the dead persons as Agatona “Toning” Albaran, 70, and Narcisa “Naring” Escabarte, 72, both residents of Sta. Rosario, Bayacabac, Maribojoc.
In a report, the Maribojoc police noted that both women were last spotted gathering shellfish by the shore in Maribojoc at around 5 p.m.
However, they were reportedly suddenly out of sight until a fisherman on board his banca found both of them lifeless and floating in the seawaters off the town’s port.
Albaran and Escabarte were believed to have accidentally went over a steep underwater slope causing them to drown.
No one was reportedly able to see the women when the incident happened.
According to police, Albaran and Escabarte were known to be close friends and were always seen together gathering shellfish even in the early hours of the day. (AD)
