The owner of the pumpboat believed to have been used by the alleged killers of Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel in dumping her body in waters off Lapu-Lapu City and the late local chief executive’s personal assistant were arrested in Bien Unido on Wednesday.

Suspect Lobo Boniel, the said motorized boat’s owner, and Brian Sayson, a regular employee of the Bien Unido local government, were served arrest warrants by Bien Unido police for alleged involvement in the killing of Gisela on June 7, 2017.

The murder case against the two suspects is a non-bailable offense.

In a report, Bien Unido police indicated that warrants issued by Judge Altone Miralles, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 54 in Lapu-Lapu City, were served to the suspects in the villages of Poblacion and Nueva Estrella in Bien Unido at around 6:30 p.m.

Sayson, 33, and Lobo, 39, are both residents of Bien Unido, police said.

Lobo is reportedly a cousin of Board Member Niño Rey Boniel who is accused of being the mastermind in the killing of wife Gisela.

Niño was allegedly the one who shot Gisela dead while on board a motorized banca before dumping her body in waters between Caubian Island and Olango Channel in Lapu-Lapu City.

The Bohol board member is now detained at the Talibon District Jail while Lobo and Sayson are temporarily held at the Bien Unido Police Station.

Sayson and Lobo are set to be brought to Lapu-Lapu City to present themselves before RTC Branch 54’s Miralles and return the arrest warrants. (R. Tutas)
