The provincial government has commenced construction of the over kilometer-long segment of Calceta St. in Tagbilaran City known to locals as the “roller coaster” road for its series of up-and-down slopes.

According to Engr. Ben Redulla, chief of the Provincial Engineering Office, a P72-million budget was allocated for the road’s concreting and widening.

It will take about 330 days to complete the project, said Redulla.

As part of the construction, the road will slightly be leveled lessening its iconic slopes which will no longer be as steep as before.

Most part of the slanted ground will be covered up, added Redulla.

Although the long stretch along Calceta Street is under the jurisdiction of Tagbilaran City, the provincial government took over its construction.

The project’s transfer under the Bohol government was due to the road’s strategic location.

According to Redulla, a portion of the said street will be among the main routes leading to the new provincial Capitol.

Bohol’s new seat of power is being constructed near the Carlos P. Garcia Park along CPG North Ave. and is scheduled to be completed early next year.

Meanwhile, residents along Calceta Street have been informed of the road construction and briefed on the alternative routes to take on their way to their homes. (Allen Doydora)
