U.S. Pacific Angels 15-1 volunteers concluded their humanitarian efforts in health services outreach amd engineering in different towns in a span of a week.
Brig. Gen. John M. Hillyer of the U.S. Pacific Air Force stressed that the humanitarian mission is a “beautiful expression of support†that “highlights friendship†between the Philippines and the United States.
Hillyer graced the closing ceremony held at covered court of barangay Dao in this city attended by some 100 of his men and women of Pacific Angels, city officials led by Mayor John Geesnell Yap II, provincial administrator Alfonso Damalerio II, Brig Gen. Francisco V. Carada of the Philippines Air Force’s 560th Air Base Wing, Lt. Col Jamie Lindman and Department of Education officials and school schildren.
Hillyer was joined by Mayor Yap, DepEd city superintendent Evangel Luminarias, Carada and Damalerio in the ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday for the shool classroom rehabilitation done by the volunteers.
For his part, Carada said that “we need each other to work together,†in the aftermath of calamities, particularly Bohol which struck by magnitude 7.2 earthquake on October 15, 2013, leaving 200 plus dead and scores of damages in public, private buildings and heritage centuries-old churches.
The Pacific Angels team of engineering civic action in collaboration with the Provincial Engineering Team joined in the repairs of San Isidro National High School, Dao Elementary School and Dampas Elementary School in Tagbilaran City; Bartolome Doria Elementary School in Calunasan Norte, Loboc, Bohol; Biking Technical Vocational High School in Dauis, Bohol; and Owac Elementaary School in Subayon, Bilar, Bohol.
The week-long mission started August 17 by launching the medical mission focusing on general medicine, pediatrics, physical therapy, optometry and dentistry in Lila, Bohol, Liza Flores, in-charge of the special project of the governor’s office said in interview.
Lila town Vice-Mayor Eb Raut said in separate interview that prior to the medic mission launching, a short program was held at the municipal hall to welcome the visitors. Mayor Regina Salazar led officials in the reception of the visitors along with Gov. Edgar Chatto, he said.
Hundreds of beneficiaries of Lila and neighboring towns took advantage of the said medical mission.
Mayor Yap expressed gratitude to the volunteers for the help and rehabilitation of the school classrooms of barangay Dao, this city. (rvo)
