UB hosts 450th Blood Compact anniversary

In commemoration of the 450th year anniversary of the blood compact between  Datu Sikatuna  and General Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in cooperation with the University of Bohol College of Liberal  Arts,  conducted a commemorative lecture featuring significant events in the annals of Bohol’s history.

With the theme, Sandugo: The Traditional Pact of Friendship, the one day celebration featured  research works and lectures of contemporary historians  and researchers to include Dr. Jes. B. Tirol of the University of Bohol who discussed on The Site and Significance of the Blood Compact,  Fr. Ted  Millan Torralba , Executive Secretary of the Permanent Committee for the Cultural Heritage of the Church  on the topic,  Churches of Bohol, and Prof. Emmanuel Luis Romanillos , Department of European Languages,  University of the Philippines- Diliman  who lectured on the Influence of the Religious Orders in Bohol. The Blood Compact which actually   took place on August 25 is considered as the First International Treaty of Friendship that opened the flood gates  of international relations and  the formation of the United Nations.

During the program, Dr. Lumin T. Pamaran, UB  vice president for academics and concurrent acting president welcomed the participants coming from the different  colleges, universities and secondary schools  in the city and in the province of Bohol. In like manner, Mr. Ian Christopher B. Alfonso, national researcher of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines gave the statement of purpose before a jampacked audience at the university’s Nursing Skills Lab.  After the lecture, the speakers were given  certificates of appreciation  by Dr. Lumin Pamaran and Atty. Marlumina B. Teh, Dean of UB  College of Liberal Arts. (labboncales)
