A male suspect who allegedly hacked his neighbor with a bolo was killed after jumping from a coconut tree at a village in Bilar on Wednesday.

PO3 Joel Calamba of the Bilar Police Station identified the fatality as 23-year-old Jimmy Deliman, a resident of Barangay Cambigsi of said town who purportedly suffered from mental illness.

Based on police initial investigation, Calamba told DYRD Balita that the hacking committed by Deliman against one Jose Murilla, 52, happened at around 11 a.m. in Cambigsi.

Murilla who is a farmer working at a rice field owned by Deliman’s father was resting and eating lunch along with other workers when the suspect arrived.

According to Calamba, Deliman pulled out Murillo’s bolo which was tied to his side and immediately slashed the victim.

Murillo was reportedly hit on his right ear while Deliman immediately fled the area.

The victim was rushed to a hospital while responding policemen found the injured Deliman sprawled on the floor of his home shortly after the incident.

According to resident, Deliman suddenly climbed a coconut tree and jumped after reaching the top falling 25 meters to the ground.

The witnesses then carried Deliman to his home immediately after hitting the ground.

Police were still able to speak to Deliman who complained of pain throughout his body particularly his back prompting the responding authorities to rush the suspect to the town’s health center.

However, Deliman succumbed to his injuries at around 3 p.m. on the same day.

According to police, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Evangeline Delfin pinpointed multiple fractures of the thoracic vertebrae including the ribs and back which may have punctured the kidney as cause of death.

Deliman also sustained comminuted fractures to the heel bone of the left foot.

Meanwhile, Murillo was referred to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City where he will get further treatment. (Allen Doydora)
