An 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three men inside the Cogon Public Market in Tagbilaran City and was left half naked and covered with cardboard in the wee hours of Monday.
In her report filed at the Tagbilaran City Police Station, victim Tasing (not her real name), a student of a university in Tagbilaran City, said she was walking to her sister’s house along Tabaco St. when the suspects suddenly approached her.
The three unidentified men then forcibly dragged her into the Cogon Public Market’s empty restroom, said Tasing.
She was held by the suspects who then slammed her head into the wall causing her to lose consciousness.
According to Tasing, she woke up in the morning sprawled on a pedestrian lane in front of Plaza Marcela with a tattered shirt and no underwear.
Based on accounts of a tricycle driver in the vicinity, passersby initially thought that Tasing was mentally ill as she laid on the street barely clothed before realizing that she had been harassed.
Tasing was accompanied by residents in the area as she reported the incident to police.
She was then taken to a hospital for evaluation while the police’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk has been tasked to investigate the case.
According to the same report to police, Tasing’s Samsung cellphone worth P6,000 was also taken by the suspects. (Weli Maestrado)
