A police officer suffered bruises in his body and needed three stitches on his head after he was allegedly beaten up in Talibon by a resident of the said town on Saturday night.

The Talibon police identified the victim as PO2 Jovenile Rodriguez, a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño of the said town who is assigned at the Bien Unido Police Station.

Based on Rodriguez’ narration to Talibon police, the incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. when he was driving a tricycle to pick up his family at a birthday party in a nearby village.

However, a man later on identified as Albert Valmores flagged the victim down near a school in Barangay San Jose.

Valmores who was unprovoked then allegedly dashed towards Rodriguez and attacked the victim as he slowed down to make a turn.

Rodriguez was reportedly unable to fight back as he was seated in a driving position while he was beaten up by Valmores causing severe bruises in the victim’s body and cuts on his head.

According to authorities, the suspect only stopped attacking the victim when he was able to identify himself as a police officer.

This prompted Valmores to run towards a dark area in the village, police said.

Rodriguez reportedly chased Valmores but to no avail as the suspect was able to flee.

In a follow-up investigation, the Talibon police were also able to pinpoint Valmores, a resident of Barangay San Jose, as the suspect.

Police have already launched a hot pursuit against Valmores but he is no longer in his residence and even their village.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez who was already discharged from the hospital said that he is intending to pursue filing charges against the suspect. (A. Doydora)
