In celebration of the National Grains Industry Week (NGIW) from September 21-15, 2015, the National Food Authority (NFA) in Bohol will be holding activities during the weeklong event as a prelude to the nationwide celebration of the agency’s 43^rd anniversary on September 26. This year’s NGIW celebration carries the theme: “Seguridad sa Pagkain, Tungkulin Natin”.

The National Grains Industry Week aims to promote NFA as “Food Guardian” meaning making rice accessible, available, affordable, and safe to the public. This activity would also engage NFA stakeholders in activities that would showcase their role and significance in the food security value chain.

NFA Bohol Manager Peng Evasco has also laid down various local activities for the upcoming anniversary program. One of the highlight activities is NFA’s campaign advocacy: “1 Million Food Guardians for 100 Million Filipino People”. This advocacy encourages individuals from different sectors to be volunteers as Food Guardians in the province of Bohol who are passionate about social media, food security and safety. Mgr. Evasco encourages all individuals to visit the NFA Bohol Provincial office from September 21-25, 2015 as registration booths and pledge wall will be set-up for the weeklong launching and calling out of volunteers. Volunteers will be given a kit comprising of information materials while encouraging them to like the official NFA facebook page and the 1for100 Food Guardian facebook account.

Amidst various issues and concerns pressing the agency, NFA has remained strong to continue its mission in ensuring that rice will always be available, accessible, affordable and safe to the public. Through the efforts of NFA Administrator Renan B. Dalisay, he hopes that the agency can provide transparency and public’s better understanding of NFA’s over-all operations and its importance in the country’s food security. Such development would be a turn-around image of the NFA as Food Guardian and the NFA warehouse as “Ingat-Yaman ng Pagkaing Pilipino.”
