A taxi driver, who was a retired policeman previously assigned at the Panglao Police Station, was robbed and killed in Cebu by three of his passengers on Tuesday night.
Authorities identified the victim as Jose Medrano Sering Jr., 56, who took an optional retirement from the police force in 2016.
In a report, police indicated that the suspects asked to be taken to 5th Street, Happy Valley in Barangay Guadaluope in Cebu City where Sering was robbed.
Authorities believed that Sering may have attempted to fight the suspects before he was shot to death.
He sustained a gunshot wound in his chest and various parts of his body leading to his death.
Senior Inspector Narrolf Tan, deputy chief of Cebu City Police Office-City Intelligence Branch, told Cebu media suspects in the killing have been rounded up earlier today.
However, their identities have not yet been revealed.
According to the Panglao police, Siring retired as a police officer 2 and started in law enforcement with the defunct Police Constabulary.
He was transferred to Panglao in 2013.
It was his las assignment before retiring in 2016. (AD)
