LGU installs P350-K worth CCTV cameras in Antequera

The local government unit (LGUs) of Antequera has installed closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras along roads adjacent to the town’s main entry points to boost security and its drive against criminality.

Mayor Jose Pahang on Monday told dyRD Balita that the high-definition CCTV cameras were mounted near Antequera’s four boundaries bordering Maribojoc, Loon, Balilihan and San Isidro.

CCTV units were also installed in and around key establishments including Antequera’s municipal hall and public market, Pahang said.

The LGU allocated P350,000 from its intelligence fund for the implementation of the project, he added.

According to the mayor, the initiative was also crafted to monitor the town’s main thoroughfares and to hasten authorities’ response time to emergency situations.


The LGU, in accordance with its anti-crime campaign, has launched the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team to provide assistance to the police along with barangay tanods (village watchemen).

The mayor also called on the public to be vigilant and to support the town’s drive against criminality by reporting suspicious activities and personalities to police.

Earlier, other LGUs including that of Trinidad and Tagbilaran City also installed CCTV cameras across key locations in their respective localities.

The Trinidad LGU earmarked an P8-million budget for the installation of 50 high-definition CCTV cameras mounted near the four boundaries of the municipality.

While in Tagbilaran City, the Sangguniang Panlungsod is expected to pass within the year an ordinance requiring business establishments to install CCTV cameras. (RT)
