A man driving a motorcycle was killed after he was accidentally run over by a delivery truck of an ice cream company along a national road in Baclayon at around 12 p.m. on Monday.

Authorities identified the victim who was driving a Mio motorcycle as Justine Patrick Tubig, a 37-year-old resident of Barangay San Roque in Baclayon.

The incident was allegedly a freak accident as the truck’s driver, Edwin Alberto, told police that Tubig’s motorcycle suddenly slipped.

Tubig, while driving towards Tagbilaran City, then involuntarily rolled towards the truck as he crashed, said Alberto who was heading to the opposite direction.

The victim was then run over by the truck’s rear wheel, Alberto added.

Based on initial police investigation, Tubig attempted to overtake a unit of the Dory Bus Transit Inc. near the Lao Bridge in Barangay Tuguihon prior to the accident.

Tubig reportedly lost control of his vehicle while trying to overtake.

He was still rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

According to police, the victim was not wearing a helmet during the incident leading to severe head injuries during the crash.

Alberto meanwhile was taken into custody by the Baclayon police pending the decision of the victim’s family to either arrange an out-of-court settlement or file charges. (A. Doydora)
