The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has assured that provincial government-owned hospitals in Bohol are ready ahead of the Christmas and New Year revelries and the expected turnout of firecracker-related injuries during the holidays.
According to PHO chief Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot, a white code alert was raised in all 10 provincial hospitals in Bohol in preparation for the festivities particularly in welcoming 2018.
Under code white alert, hospital staff particularly those assigned in emergency rooms, surgeons and those with specialization on trauma and injuries, are put on standby.
Rural Health Units (RHU) in various towns were also directed to be on alert as these facilities should not be without personnel during the holidays.
Employees of RHUs were told to be on call throughout the day, Cabagnot said.
According to the health official, preparation in health facilities is crucial during the holiday period as firecracker-related and even stray bullet injuries have been rampant in the previous years.
So far, there have been no reported injuries caused by firecracker accidents yet in the province.
As New Year’s Eve draws near however cases are expected to drastically rise. (rt)
