A 34-year-old man believed to be suffering from a mental condition was charged on Monday for allegedly hacking his uncle dead late last week in Ubay.

PO3 Renato Cutaran told dyRD Balita that a murder complaint was filed against suspect Rogelio Boyles, a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Katarungan in Ubay.

According to Cutaran, Boyles without apparent reason suddenly repeatedly hacked Selestre Dungog, 60, as the victim passed by the suspect’s house on Saturday evening.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital by witnesses.

However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving the health facility.

Meanwhile, Boyles remained under the custody of the Ubay police.

According to Cutaran, Boyles’ family told authorities that the suspect is suffering from a still unknown mental condition.

Boyles remained unresponsive to police’s questions as he merely kept on staring blankly at open spaces, Cutaran said. (A. Doydora)
