A carnapping suspect was arrested after police tracked him down when the motorcycle he stole was spotted just barely two kilometers away from where he took it in Tagbilaran City.
According to police, the motorcycle owned by Kyle Birato, 20, was stolen in late January along Remolador Ext. in Barangay Cogon and was seen in the adjacent village of Dampas on Feburary 24.
The victim’s friend reportedly saw the motorcycle parked along Jansen Heights in Barangay Dampas.
Upon receiving the information, Birato immediately notified the Tagbilaran police’s theft and robbery section which in turn set up an operation to apprehend the suspect.
Responding police then waited for the suspect to arrive and take the motorcycle.
Later that day, the suspect who was identified as Asia Kuss Tapangan, 23, of Barangay Santa Catalina, Sagbayan, tried to board the motorcycle but was immediately arrested by the authorities.
Tapangan is now in the custody of the Tagbilaran City police pending the filing of a carnapping rap against him. (WM)
