A militiaman was shot dead in an ambush carried out by three unidentified assailants in a remote village in Bilar town at past 5 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities identified the fatality as Paulino Banga, 54, a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) assigned in Magsaysay, Sevilla.
Based on the initial investigation of the Bilar Police Station, the motorcycle-riding suspects started to trail Banga while he was driving his motorcycle along the Campagao-Dagohoy Barangay Road.
Banga was reportedly heading towards his house in Barangay Dagohoy.
According to police, one of the suspects suddenly shot Banga causing him to crash and fall to the ground.
Two of the suspects then alighted the motorcycle and went near the victim. One pulled Banga while the other forcibly opened the utility box of the victim’s motorcycle, a witness told police.
Before fleeing the scene, the driver shot Banga two more times.
Authorities said that crime scene investigators recovered three spent shells and one deformed .45 bullet at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Bilar Police Station continued its investigation to identify the motive behind the fatal shooting. (rt)
