A suspected drug dealer was killed while two alleged drug users including a private school teacher were arrested following a police anti-drug operation, which yielded P300,000 worth of shabu, in Barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City on Sunday afternoon.
Alleged drug pusher John Gerard “Cano” Anson was gunned down by police after allegedly attempting to shoot it out with arresting police operatives near the home of one of the arrested suspects, Sereverio Ginogo, 23.
In a report, police said that the incident happened as elements of the Tagbilaran City Police Station carried out a drug buy-bust operation against Anson who noticed that he was being subjected to a staged drug transaction.
Anson allegedly tried to shoot at the police poseur-buyer but his gun malfunctioned. He then ran towards the house of Ginogo’s neighbor, one Richard Coquilla, where he positioned himself to shoot it out with the lawmen.
Police said that Anson looked out through a window but the operatives who were stationed around the buy-bust area immediately shot at him hitting him multiple times in the head and body and causing his instantaneous death.
According to Tagbilaran City police chief Supt. Patricio Degay, Anson was newly included in their drug watch list.
Meanwhile, authorities identified the other arrested suspect as Roderick Daro, 23, a private school teacher in Tagbilaran City and a resident of Barangay Dao in the city.
Daro and Ginogo were allegedly buying illegal drugs from Anson prior to the operation and were caught in possession of four pieces each of sachets containing suspected shabu.
For their part, Scene of the Crime Operatives reported that they recovered from Anson a .38 caliber revolver whihch was loaded with three bullets.
According to authorities, the drugs seized from Anson and his alleged buyers weighed a total of 20 grams with an estimated street value of P300,000.
Both Daro and Ginigo are now under the custody of the Tagbilaran police pending the filing of illegal drug possession charges against them. (W. Maestrado)
