A former member of the US Army who fought in Iraq and has now been allegedly involved in illegal drug operations in the province evaded police arrest following a buy-bust operation in Candijay on Saturday.

Chief Insp. Joseph Berondo, Candijay police chief, identified the suspect as Alarik Macadini, 35, a Filipino-American dual citizen living in Sitio Looc, Barangay Poblacion of the town.

According to Berondo, Macadini jumped out of a window in his house as he grew suspicious that he was transacting with an undercover police officer during the sting operation.

PO3 Omar Macadini, Alarik’s brother, was among police officers who were stationed around the buy-bust area supposedly to help arrest the suspect.

Omar, a police officer assigned in Camp Dagohoy, said that his brother was subjected to drug rehabilitation but abandoned the program twice.

Initial efforts to rehabilitate Alarik was conducted in Baclayon town and the second was at a rehabilitation center in Mandaue City in Cebu.

It was only last month that Alarik left the rehab center without completing the program, said Omar.

Before he was sent to a drug rehabilitation center, Alarik was deployed to 13 assignments in Iraq.

He is believed to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Berondo said.

According to Berondo, charges for violating Sections 5 and 12 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act will be filed against Alarik. (Allen Doydora)
