A motorcyclist died on the spot while his passenger was injured after their vehicle was rammed by a private multicab in Inabanga at dawn on Saturday.
Based on police investigation, the multicab driver identified as Raymond Tepaniro fell asleep behind the wheel causing the vehicle to cross towards the opposite lane.
The multicab then slammed straight into the incoming motorcycle in Barangay Cagay-an, said PO2 Rosalio Ceneza of the Inabanga police.
Victim Robert Lodiana, 28, immediately succumbed to his head injuries while his passenger Basiledes Bautista, 49, sustained bruises and cuts on her face.
According to Ceneza, both victims were wearing helmets during the accident.
However, Lodiana’s protective headgear was severely damaged due to the strong impact.
Tepaniro was taken into police custody but no charges were filed against him after reaching an amicable settlement with the victim’s family.
His employer has also vowed to pay for all the expenses of the victim’s burial. (A. Doydora)
