Administrative sanctions may be filed against police violators of the Helmet Law, said Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) director Sr. Supt. Angeles Genorga after several cops were recently spotted without helmets while driving motorcycles in the province.

According to Genorga, the BPPO is already investigating the uniform-clad police officers who were caught on video without helmets while driving motorcycles along streets in Tagbilaran City on Monday morning.

The BPPO found out that the policemen are assigned to the Tagbilaran City Police Station. They were driving confiscated motorcycles to the police’s impound lot, said Genorga.

However, the province’s highest ranking police official clarified that there are no exemptions in the implementation of the Helmet Law even for cops who are on official duty.

“Ang reason nila sa’kin ay mga nahuling motor daw yun na dinadala sa station, pero kahit pa. By the time na sumakay ka sa motor, you must be equipped with a helmet,” he said. “It’s not an excuse na yan ay for impounding on the way to the police station.”

Genorga urged police officers to set an example for the public amid the BPPO’s intensified campaign against violators of the Helmet Law which was enforced in the province earlier this month.

“Tayo magpakita ng example kung anong gusto natin ipatupad. Mahirap kung magpatupad tapos tayo mismo ay di sumusunod,” he said.

Prior to the investigation on the Tagbilaran policemen, at least four motorcycle-riding cops without helmets were caught through photos and videos which were spread online.

The alleged police violators were spotted in Cortes, Loboc and Tagbilaran City.

However, the BPPO has yet to identify the policemen and issue sanctions against them. (ad)
