A passenger vessel ran aground at Mocaboc Island in Tubigon at past 1 a.m. on Wednesday, a town official said.

According to Tubigon Mayor William Jao, none of the Lite Ferry 27’s 44 passengers were injured.

Lite Ferry 27 which was bound for Tubigon from Mandaue City ran aground due to limited visibility of a lighthouse in the area which served as the vessel’s guide, said Jao based on the captain’s report.

The vessel failed to navigate accordingly towards the Tubigon port, Jao added.

The town’s seaborne patrol unit was immediately deployed to ferry some passengers to the mainland while others were rescued using motorized bancas.

Jao said that the vessel was not yet refloated as of Wednesday morning.

Authorities are set to deploy a tugboat to pull the Lite Ferry 27 to deeper parts of the sea and allow the vessel to travel to the Tubigon port. (A. Doydora)
