The recent photo endorsement of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte of resigned Cabinet Sec. Leoncio Evasco, Jr, can help him win in his gubernatorial bid in the 2019 elections.
This was how 32% of the radio survey respondents interpreted the endorsement of the President during a two-hour phone and text survey conducted by top-rated “Inyong Alagad” program of dyRD last October 24.
Viewing the endorsement as with “influence,” they said the popularity of the President can still be translated into votes for Evasco who is a known trusted ally of Duterte since he was still working with then Davao Mayor Duterte,
The photo of Pres. Duterte raising the hand of then Cabsec Evasco also had then Special Presidential Assistant Bong Go on the other side of the President. The said photo was taken two weeks ago in Davao City,
The remaining 68% of the respondents said that Evasco will win by his own merits like his record and performance as town mayor of Maribojoc and of what people have heard about him while working with the Davao mayor, now President Duterte.
Meanwhile, Evasco has recently shunned away from media interviews.
His last radio interview was during the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) at the Provincial Comelec Office where he started to criticize the Chatto administration. He also questioned the credibility of his opponent, last termer Rep. Art Yap to run as governor after having been linked to several graft cases during the Arroyo administration. Yap’s being a “non-Boholano” was also one of the points raised by Evasco.
The former Cabinet secretary, now a gubernatorial bet, likewise questioned the continued proliferation of drugs in the province which he insinuated to be getting the protection by some local officials.
