Signal No. 1 raised over Bohol as Samuel nears

Signal No. 1 was hoisted over Bohol on Monday morning as Tropical Depression Samuel maintained its strength while moving northwestward.

In its bulletin issued at 11 a.m., state weather bureau PAGASA said that the center of Samuel was estimated based on all available data to be located at 605 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

“Moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flooding and landslides may occur over Caraga Region, Eastern Visayas, and the provinces of Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Bohol and Cebu,” PAGASA said.

According to PAGASA, the tropical depression could intensify into a tropical storm before making landfall.

PAGASA also placed the following localities under Signal No. 1: Southern Leyte, Leyte, southern portion of Samar, southern portion of Eastern Samar, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin.

“Residents of these areas, especially those living near or in river channels, low-lying and mountainous reas, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates,” PAGASA said.
