Crime rate in Bohol down by 13%

Crime rate in Bohol for the first 11 months of 2018 dropped by 13 percent compared to the same period last year.

A total of 6,199 crime incidents were recorded from January to November this year, based on data released by the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO).

The figure is lower by 948 incidents from the 7,147 incidents tallied in the same 11-month span in 2017.

The information was reported by BPPO deputy director for operations Senior Superintendent Lorenzo Batuan during the Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council meeting led by Governor Edgar Chatto at the People’s Mansion in Tagbilaran City on Wednesday morning.

According to the same data, 1,642 index crimes were recorded during the 11-month span, down by 29 percent from the 2,329 index crimes tallied last year.

Theft cases went down from 941 to 681; physical injury cases, from 672 to 520; robbery cases, from 431 to 223; rape cases from 103 to 80; carnapping, from 85 to 50; and cattle rustling, from 18 to four.

However, murder and homicide cases went up from 60 to 64 and 19 to 20, respectively.

Most crimes were committed on Sundays with 1,071 cases while the least number of crimes were recorded on Thursdays at 795.

The BPPO said that most crimes were committed between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. (R. Tutas)
