A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a fellow working student who he lived with at the residence of Vice Governor Dionisio Balite in Tagbilaran City.
A report from the Tagbilaran City Police Station said that the suspect, identified as Bernard Maputol, a native of Mahayag, Alicia, was apprehended by police at the home of Balite in Barangay Poblacion II right after the incident on Monday.
PO1 Genalyn Pahang of the Tagbilaran Police Station’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk said that the victim was subjected to a medical examination and the result showed signs of rape.
Maputol was charged with rape on Wednesday, Pahang said.
Pahang however refused to divulge further details on the case.
Meanwhile, an employee of the Vice Governor’s Office who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that both the victim and suspect were living in Balite’s residence and were employed by the vice governor’s daughter.
According to the police report, the victim woke up at 4:00 a.m. on Monday with Maputol on top of her as he was touching her genitals.
The victim tried to push Maputol away but he overpowered her and proceeded to rape her.
After the incident, Maputol said “ayaw saba” and went back to his bed to sleep, the report said.
According to authorities, Maputol is now under the custody of the Tagbilaran City Police Station while the case against him has been lodged before the Tagbilaran City Prosecutor’s Office. (AD)
