Candidates running for local posts in Antequera town are set to sign a covenant and join a unity walk for peaceful polls on May 13, 2019.
Antequera election officer Alan Mijares said that candidates for mayor, vice mayor and councilor will sign the covenant at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish Church on Thursday.
Candidates and other participants will join a Mass and a unity walk from the municipal hall to the church prior to the covenant signing.
Officials from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police (PNP), the military and the Catholic Church are expected to take part in the activity.
The public is free to also join the unity walk and Mass, said Mijares.
Earlier, the towns of Trinidad and Balilihan also held a peace covenant signing.
The signing of the peace covenant and the conduct of a unity walk are carried out as part of the PNP and Comelec’s mandate in preparation for the nearing elections. (RT)
