(UPDATED) Six people were hurt after a pickup truck with a senior couple on board fell into an under construction basement in Tagbilaran City at past 2 p.m. on Thursday.
The Nissan Navara, driven by Fructuso Calipusan, 74, slammed straight into a barrier enclosing the construction site located across the parking lot of Galleria Luisa along Gallares Street.
Calipusan was about to drive out of Galleria Luisa’s uphill exit right before over accelerating into the construction site.
“Automatic man gud tong Navara basin imbis brake tumban, basin mi-accelerate na nuon,” said Corporal Mejorico Arawiran of the traffic investigation section of the Tagbilaran City police.
Arawiran said that Calipusan was with his wife, Celsa, 70, during the accident.
Both suffered only minor injuries but were still rushed to the Ramiro Community Hospital in Tagbilaran City.
According to Romel Ponce, the construction site’s foreman, the pickup rammed galvanized iron sheets surrounding the unfinished basement and fell into the excavation area hitting four construction workers.
The injured workers were identified as Mario Soco, Alberto Ortiz, Victor Mencias and Danila Rosal.
According to Arawiran, Fructoso has offered to shoulder the medical expenses of the four injured construction workers. (A. Doydora)
