The incumbent barangay councilor and former barangay captain of Datag, Inabanga, Rodrigo “Digoy” Estoria, was hit by a bullet at his left hand that sustained slight injury in an ambush shooting around 8:30 AM on January 22, 2016 along the provincial road of Sitio Watis, Barangay Baguhan, Inabanga, Bohol.

Upon learning of the incident, the Inabanga PNP Station conducted an immediate follow-up operation.  The victim, who managed to drive his motorcycle to his house, was already at his residence upon arrival of the responding team and was brought to the place where he was allegedly shot by an unidentified lone assailant. Recovered on the scene were two (2) newly fired empty shells of .45 caliber firearm. The victim never saw the suspect who was hiding in a bushy portion when he was shot while driving his motorcycle in his way home in a crest and curve portion of the road.

In the initial phase of the investigation and based on the statements of nearby residents, three (3) successive burst of gunfire was heard at the place and later noticed that the victim was shot but fortunately not fatally hit. The suspect was waiting for the victim to pass then escaped through the heavy grassy portion up in a mountain. CAFGU based in in Barangay Datag immediately responded to the incident and are now conducting follow-up operations.

The victim was brought to the Municipal Health Office of Inabanga for a medical treatment. No motive for the incident has been established yet. As of this writing, further investigation is still going on. (Inabanga Communications and News Service / ICoNS)
