A 30-year-old man was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in Tagbilaran City on Wednesday afternoon, less than a month after he was released from prison after serving time for a drug charge.
According to Tagbilaran police chief Lt. Col. Christopher Navida, suspect Jay Lopoy, 30, was apprehended along J. Borja Street in Poblacion II at past 3 p.m.
Navida said that the operation was set in motion after police yesterday found out that Lopoy resumed illegal drug operations as he was spotted by police at a cockpit arena in Tagbilaran City.
Police immediately placed him under surveillance and confirmed his illegal drug activities prompting officers to set the sting operation.
On Wednesday, Lopoy was driving a gray Hyundai Accent when he transacted with an undercover police officer.
He allegedly sold shabu to the police poseur-buyer resulting in his immediate arrest.
Lopoy denied ownership of the sedan as he told authorities that he was renting the car for P1,500 per day.
In July last year, Lopoy was arrested for a drug charge.
Authorities said he was released from prison in May this year after entering a plea bargaining agreement.
Plea bargaining is when a suspect pleads guilty to a lesser offense, hence getting a lighter sentence. (W. Maestrado)
